McDonalds
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Description
The McDonalds chain of fast food store operate a hierarchy of designs. The store in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne was of the highest level. It was therefore decided that a water feature was needed in the centre of the space to shorten the apparent distance from the entrance to the counter.
An octagonal concrete wall was cast in the centre of the space and lined with insitu grp. A plant room was formed in the basement. A full water treatment system was installed. The water is returned into a spider in the base of the feature and a number of stainless steel arms are screwed into the sockets that are mounted on it. Into the top of each arm there is the assembly from a bell nozzle which created a water bell.
The designer wanted a gold effect so after fabrication the stainless steel was sent to a specialist who electrically modified the surface of the metal so that it appears to be gold in colour.
